Sketchbook 12: A Colorful Journey Through Cities and Imagination Vancouver

previous post

Hey there, fellow art enthusiasts and curious wanderers! Grab your imaginary paintbrush and join me on a whirlwind tour through the pages of my trusty sketchbook. It's been my constant companion through city changes, creative ups and downs, and some seriously weird inspirational moments. Ready for a splash of color and a dose of artistic insanity? Let's dive in!

The Only Constant in a Changing World

You know how they say change is the only constant? Well, in my world, it's change... and my sketchbook. Every time I pack up and move to a new city, this little bundle of paper and possibilities is right there with me. It's my anchor, my therapist, and my playground all rolled into one.

These water paintings? They're my daily dose of sanity. A little splash here, a dab there, and voila! Suddenly, the chaos of a new place doesn't seem so overwhelming. It's like creating my own little world within the pages, one brushstroke at a time.

A Gallery of the Peculiar and Profound

"Me and My Little Dog" - Picture this: a kid sitting next to a dog the size of a house. Who's walking who, am I right? It's a reminder that sometimes our companions in life might be bigger (literally or figuratively) than we expected, but hey, that's where the fun begins!
"The Lost Wizard" - There's this wizard, right? He's wandering around, looking all confused. That was me, trying to find my way in a new city. Sometimes you've got to embrace the "lost" to find a new direction. Magical staff optional, but highly recommended.

"Bad Day Doodle" - Oh, we've all been there. Those days when your drawings look like they were done by a blindfolded octopus. But you know what? Even those wonky lines have their charm. Embrace

"Underwater Beast" - Speaking of octopuses, meet my naughty cephalopod friend. Part of my "Monster Week" series, this guy looks like he's ready to tickle the nearest submarine. Because who says monsters can't have a sense of humor?

"Multi-Eyed Drooler" - This was the start of my monster-making phase. Multiple eyes, drooling tongue – the works! Because sometimes, one pair of eyes just isn't enough to see all the craziness in this world.
"The Pale Criminal" - Dark humor alert! A cartoon character with a heart shot. It's like those old-school cartoons met film noir in a dark alley. Remember, folks: in art, as in life, always expect the unexpected.
"Randomness Incarnate" - Inspired by a chat outside Rogers Arena. The world's full of possibilities, and sometimes you've just got to put pen to paper to make sense of it all. Or make it even more nonsensical. Whatever works!

"Alien Lumberjack" - One step towards the future, they said. So naturally, I drew an alien chopping wood. Because even in the future, we might need to go back to basics. Also, have you seen the price of firewood lately? Intergalactic inflation is no joke!

"Vancouver Tourist Season" - Ah, the sight of European backpackers exploring our city. It's tempting to offer help, isn't it? But remember, sometimes the best adventures come from getting a little lost. (Just keep your sketchbook handy!)

"Fish Face" - They say you become what you draw. Well, apparently I've started looking like my fish. It's all fun and games until you start craving algae for breakfast!

"The Wrong Rider" - Ever felt like you're on the wrong path but it feels so right? That's this guy. Riding the wrong animal to the wrong places, but having an existential blast doing it. Sometimes, you've got to get lost to find yourself, you know?

"Plants vs. Zombies Ponderings" - Revisiting this classic game got me thinking: what ARE those plants and zombies saying to each other? "Hey, lettuce be friends"? "I zombie what you did there"? The possibilities are endless and probably terrible pun-filled.

"Textured Sea Monster" - Because one sea monster just wasn't enough. This one's got texture. It's like if a pineapple and a kraken had a baby. Don't ask how that works.

"420 Vision" - Ever seen a pig fly? On 420, anything's possible. Just a guy, a bench, and some airborne bacon. Normal Tuesday, right?

"A Simple Meeting" - Aliens meeting other alien forms. It's like a cosmic coffee date. "So, how do you like your antimatter? One lump or two?"

The Method to the Madness

You might be wondering, "Is there a point to all this?" And I'd say, "Absolutely... maybe." These daily doodles and water paintings are my way of processing the world around me. New cities, weird thoughts, random encounters – they all find their way onto the page.

It's about maintaining routine in the chaos of change, finding humor in the everyday, and sometimes just letting the weird flow freely. Because let's face it, life's too short for boring art.

Your Turn!

So, dear readers, I challenge you: grab a sketchbook, a pencil, or heck, even a crayon. Let your imagination run wild. Draw your day, your dreams, or that strange-looking cloud that totally looks like your Aunt Mildred (you know the one).

Remember, there's no such thing as a bad drawing – just unexpected masterpieces waiting to happen!

P.S. A Fishy Farewell

Before I go, a word of caution: be careful what you draw. You never know when you might start resembling your creations. I'm off to find some gills and practice my bubble-blowing. Until next time, keep those pencils sharp and your imagination sharper!

Stay creative, stay weird, and most importantly, stay hydrated (especially if you're turning into a fish).

Yours in art and aquatic adventures,
